Being built in by Armenian king Trdat 1st in 77 AD Garni temple dedicated to a heathen God of Sun. Garni is the only remaining Hellenistic architecture of Armenia. It is located in the South-East part of Yerevan, near the village of Garni.
Garni is very popular with its architectural specific design and notable for its fortress complex. The architecture of Garni ignites awe and wonder at the same time. Another important factor is its position amidst rocky cliffs that worked as its defenders.
Garni temple is unique from other Hellenistic temples in that the frieze and architrave overhang the capitals. On the temple there are many beautiful trimmings, such as flowers, rosettes, grapes and pomegranates. During the earthquake in 1679, the temple was destroyed and the reconstruction of the temple started only in 1969. Garni temple was completely reconstructed in 1975.
